Mathieu Gasquet
Mathieu Gasquet is the co-owner and editor of Mirrorless Comparison, as well as the man behind all the camera tests. Mathieu has been a professional photographer for over 15 years. Before specializing in camera reviews, he worked as an event photographer for the National Cinema Museum in Turin, and as a videomaker for renowned Italian agencies, which allowed him to collaborate with important names such as Fiat, Sky Italia, Maserati, and more. Mathieu also studied cinema in France and obtained a degree in cinematography at the A.R.F.I.S. school in Lyon.
The a6400 is latest mirrorless APS-C camera from Sony. It brings interesting improvements to the autofocus system and is positioned at a competitive price in the mid-range segment.
The A7 II was released in late 2014 and has become an affordable option within the A7 full-frame series. In addition to its 24MP sensor, it also sports a number of appealing features such as a good hybrid AF system and 5-axis stabilisation.

The recently announced a6400 has the potential to become the new favourite in Sony’s APS-C line-up. Once again, not many compromises have been made when it comes to quality, and if that weren’t enough, it also has some brand new features that other Sony cameras currently don’t have such as Real Time Tracking.
Sony has been rather quiet on the APS-C front for the past two years, preferring to concentrate on developing its extremely successful full-frame A7 series. By contrast, Fujifilm’s APS-C family of cameras, the X-series, has grown by leaps and bounds in the same period of time thanks to powerful models such as the X-T2 and X-T3, as well as mid-range products such as the X-T20 which pack the same technology as the high-end models at a more affordable price.
Sony has announced the a6400, the fourth model in Sony’s mirrorless APS-C series with a viewfinder that also includes the a6000, a6300 and a6500.
If you’re wondering how to differentiate these three models, the first thing you can do is to simply follow the numbers. The higher the number, the more advanced the camera, although this new entry brings some features none of the others have.

For the past couple of years, Canon has often been criticised for lacking innovation. Despite integrating interesting technology such as Dual Pixel CMOS, other brands tend to offer a wider variety of features for stills and video – and the slow growth of the EOS M mirrorless system hasn’t contributed to reducing the gap either.
In 2018, Canon unveiled a more serious competitor on the mirrorless and full-frame market: the EOS R. It marks the beginning of the RF line-up, a system that is still in its infancy but will most certainly propel Canon’s advancement in the future.
