The Sony A7R mark IV inaugurates the fourth generation in the A7 series. It is a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera with a 61MP full frame sensor (a world’s first at that resolution).

The A7R IV has an advanced autofocus system with 567 phase detection points and 425 contrast detection areas, Real-Time Tracking, Eye AF for stills and video (works with animals too!). But that is not all: you will find 5-axis stabilisation, Pixel Shift Multi shooting with 240MP output, 4K video with advanced settings (including Log and HLG profiles), the highest resolution viewfinder seen on a Sony camera and a touch sensitive LCD screen.

The Nikon Z6 was the first mirrorless full-frame camera, along with the Z7, announced by Nikon in 2018.

The Z6 features a BSI sensor with 24.5 megapixel, 273 phase detection points and a sensitivity range of 100 to 204800 ISO. There is in-body  5-axis stabilisation and the camera can record 4K video up to 30p, and provides a 10-bit 4:2:2 signal via the HDMI port. The burst speed goes up to 12fps. The camera includes a touch screen and a high resolution EVF. It has a single XQD card slot.

The Sony a6400 is a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera in Sony’s E-mount range. It sits between the popular a6300 and a6500 models released a couple of years earlier.

It is characterised by its 24.2MP APS-C sized sensor, flat-topped design, 180 degree tilting touchscreen, and built-in viewfinder on the left-hand side of the body. It also has one of the most advanced hybrid autofocus systems of any mirrorless camera, with 425 phase detection points covering most of the sensor’s surface. Like all other recent Sony cameras, it is capable of recording UHD 4K video up to 30fps with no pixel binning and Full HD up to 120fps.

Released in 2019, the Canon EOS RP is the second full-frame mirrorless camera from the Japanese corporation. It is an entry level model with an attractive price in the full frame market, making it in fact the most affordable product in this category (based on new cameras and official retail prices). It joins the original EOS R in the growing RF system.

The EOS RP has a 26.2MP sensor which is the same found in the EOS 6D mark II, but with optimised micro lenses for the mirrorless flange. Performance is not great when it comes to dynamic range, but it has an ISO range of 100 to 102400 ISO and uses Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF with 4,779 points. It can record 4K video at 24 or 25p, but sadly a heavy 1.75x sensor crop is applied and Dual Pixel CMOS AF only works in 1080p. The burst speed doesn’t go past 5fps. At least there is an excellent multi-angle LCD screen, a mic input and headphone output.
