Weekly News Round-up: two lenses and the Ricoh GR IIIx ‘Urban’ Edition

This week, we have two lenses and a special edition of the Ricoh GR IIIx compact camera.

Yongnuo 85mm f/1.8 for Nikon Z-mount

Yongnuo, the Chinese brand known for its speed-lights, also produces a number of affordable prime lenses (for DSLR cameras mainly).

The new 85mm F1.8 is the first lens from the company designed for the Nikon full frame mirrorless system. It’s compact and lightweight, weather sealed, features an AF/MF selector, a function button and a USB C port at the rear for firmware updates. For now, it is only available in China with the equivalent price of $350. Hopefully, it will come to other countries soon.

Laowa 7.5mm T2.9 Cine Lens

Another cine lens from Laowa, and the company claims it is the widest rectilinear prime lens for the Super 35 format. The 7.5mm has an equivalent 12mm field of view (123˚) in full frame terms. It features the standard 0.8 mod gears on the aperture and focus rings. It is available for Canon RF, Fujifilm X, Nikon Z and Sony E mount at the price of $700.

Ricoh GR IIIx ‘Urban’ Limited Edition

The GR IIIx ‘Urban’ is a limited edition version of the GR IIIx APS-C compact camera, announced in September 2021, that we covered in a previous News Round-up.

This special edition has a new paint finish and the distinctive blue ring around the lens. It also gets a new exposure mode and focus mode. These will make their way onto the standard GR IIIx later on via a firmware update. Ricoh will also release a set of matching accessories. The price is $1100 and the camera will be available in April.
