Weekly News Round-up – Tamron lens for Fujifilm and more

This week Tamron announced its first ever lens for the Fujifilm X-mount system. Pergear revealed a 2x Macro lens for APS-C and Olympus released a minor firmware fix for two OM-D cameras.

Tamron 18-300mm F3.5-6.3 Di III-A VC VXD for Sony E-mount and Fujifilm X-mount

Tamron continues to release new lenses for the Sony E-mount series, not only for full frame cameras but also APS-C sensors. This time however, the good news is that the new lens will be the first from the brand to also be available for the Fujifilm X-mount.

Tamron opening up to the Fuji X series is great news because it means more third party lenses with autofocus available for the X-T4 & co. Tamron has not released further details, but I wonder if other lenses like the 11-20mm F2.8 and the 17-70mm F2.8 will become available in X-mount form as well. I sincerely hope so!

The new zoom is a 18-300mm (27-450mm equivalent) which is an impressive focal length range (16.6x zoom, a world’s first for APS-C mirrorless cameras). Tamron promises a compact design with weather sealing, but the price has yet to be revealed. The lens should be available by the end of the year.

  • VXD linear motor focus mechanism
  • optical stabilisation
  • 1:2 magnification ratio at 18mm
  • 67mm filter size (same as most other Tamron lenses for mirrorless cameras)

Pergear 60mm F2.8 2x Macro

  • 10-blade aperture diaphragm
  • Min. focusing distance: 19.1cm

  • 600g

Note that the lens doesn’t seem to be compatible with every camera. DPreview listed the models that will work with this lens.

Firmware update for the Olympus OM-D E-M1X and E-M1 III

A minor update is available for the flagship E-M1X and the E-M1 III. Version 2.2 and 1.4 correct a few problems related to the use of an external monitor or recorder:

  • The external recorder does not start recording when pressing the camera’s record button if REC Bit is On.
  • Time code is not transmitted to the external recorder if Time Code is On.

The firmware can be download from the Olympus Japan support page.
