Weekly News Round-up: Firmware updates!

This week we have firmware updates from Fujifilm, Panasonic and Sony, as well as a L-mount version of the Laowa 100mm macro lens.

Fujifilm X-S10 Firmware 2.0

At the end of this month, X-S10 users will be able to download a new firmware for their cameras, which adds several things including:

  • support for tethered shooting, via USB cable or wireless, using Fujifilm X Acquire, Tether Shooting plugin for Lightroom or Capture One
  • remote control functionality via USB when using compatible gimbals will allow you to control exposure settings as well as start/stop video recording
  • addition of a Lock option to lock dials and buttons on the camera and prevent unwanted changes

Panasonic S1, S1R and S5

The S1 (firmware 2.1) and S5 (firmware 2.3) will be able to record 12-bit RAW video via the HDMI output to the Blackmagic Video Assist 12G HDR recorder. Note that for the S1, the DMW-SFU2 upgrade key is required ($200).

The S1 and S1R (firmware 1.9) will receive the L. Classic Neo and L. Monochrome S picture styles.

Panasonic will also released a plugin for Photoshop that allows you to open images shot in the HLG format.

All this will be available to download on the 13th of July.


Nikon Z6, Z7 and Z50

Nikon issued a small update for the Z6 and Z7 (version 3.31) and Z50 (version 2.1) that fixes an issue generated by the previous firmware updates, where the aperture mechanism was noisier than usual with certain F-mount lenses connected via the FTZ adapter. They are available on the Nikon website.

Sony FE 50mm F1.2 GM

Version 02 fixes an issue with the aperture becoming unstable when using the aperture ring. The firmware is available on the Sony website.

Laowa 100mm F2.8 2X Macro

The world’s first 2:1 macro lens is now available for L-mount. The lens has the same specs and optical design as the EF, F and FE versions. It costs $450.
