Sony A9 III

The 5 Things To Know!

Curious to discover the five most important things to know about the Sony A9 III? Let's take a look!

1. SHUTTER The A9 III is the first mirrorless camera to feature a global shutter sensor. It can read all the pixels at the same time (unlike a rolling shutter sensor), improving speed and making mechanical curtains redundant.

2. PROS & CONS  Global shutter means no more rolling shutter issues (distortion, banding). However, it typically has limitations in dynamic range and high ISO. Sony claims the A9 III won't compromise on either of those aspects.

3. DRIVE SPEED The A9 III can shoot at 120 fps with 14-bit RAW and full AF/AE tracking. It is also equipped with the Pre-Capture function, allowing you to preload up 120 frames before the shutter button is fully pressed.

4. FLASH The A9 III can sync flash up to 1/80,000s, and the global shutter eliminates the need for HSS. Sony says third-party flashes will be compatible, although it’s not yet clear if the fastest shutter speed will be limited to Sony flashes only.

5. VIDEO The A9 III can record 4K 60p with oversampling and 4K 120p with sub-sampling. There is no sensor crop. The Picture Profiles are back with the latest options, including S-Log3 and S-Cinetone.
