1. SENSORThe S5 II has 24.2MP, while the A7 IV takes it up a notch with 33MP. Dynamic range is impressive on both cameras, but the S5 produces less noise as you increase the ISO.
2. HRS MODEThe S5 II has a 96MP High-Resolution Mode that offers an incredible amount of detail, while also eliminating moiré. It works better when there are no movements in the scene.
3. AUTOFOCUSPhase detection AF has put Panasonic back on track, but the A7 IV performs better, especially when using subject detection and Eye AF (for humans and animals).
4. DRIVEThe S5 II can shoot up to 9.7fps, or 30fps when switching to the electronic shutter, but rolling shutter is severe. On the other hand, the A7 IV can record at 10fps max.
5. VIDEO The S5 II records 6K up to 30p in open gate mode, and 5.9K in 16:9. The A7 IV doesn’t go beyond 4K. They both record 4K 60p with an APS-C crop, and work in 10-bit 4:2:2 internally.
