Sony A7R V for Bird Photography

5 Things to Know

Curious to discover the five most important things to know about the Sony A7R V for Birding? Let's take a look!

1. AI AUTOFOCUS The AI chip can detect smaller animals, as well as the body, head and eye. For static birds, the performance is impressive, especially when they are looking away, or behind  small branches.

2. BIRDS IN FLIGHT The A7R V has very good tracking capabilities, but the AI upgrade doesn't make a difference with fast moving birds. In fact, the hit rate is sligthly lower and I found a few issues with focus accuracy.

3. AF SETTINGS The A7R V is much more complicated to configure than any of its predecessors. The new settings can be helpful, but also confusing because the same configuration doesn’t always deliver the same results.

4. SPEED The maximum continuous shooting speed is 10fps, like its predecessor. There are no advantages with the electronic shutter. The buffer is very good when using CFexpress cards.

5. SENSOR  It's the same 61MP sensor as the A7R IV: great for cropping in post. Dynamic range is excellent, and you get good high ISO performance too.
