Nikon Z8 vs Sony A1

The 5 Main Differences

Curious to discover the five most important differences between the Nikon Z8 and Sony A1? Let's take a look!

1. DESIGN The Z8 is bigger than the A1 and more comfortable thanks to the larger grip. It also features a top LCD screen, extra controls, and many buttons are back-illuminated!

2. PIXEL SHIFT The A1 takes advantage of the sensor shift mechanism for another function: Pixel Shift Multi Shooting. If you choose the 16-image mode, the size increases to a whopping 200MP!

3. SHUTTER The Z8 is 'shutterless', meaning it doesn’t have mechanical curtains that open and close when taking pictures. It uses the electronic shutter only. The A1 also has an electronic-first curtain shutter (EFCS).

4. SPEED The e-shutter allows the Z8 and A1 to work at impressive speeds. The Nikon goes up to 20fps with RAW, and 120fps with JPGs. The A1 offers 30fps with RAW.

5. VIDEO  The Z8 and A1 are both capable of 8K and 4K video recording, offering different formats and codecs to choose from, but only the Nikon can record 8K 60p and 12-bit RAW internally!
