The 5 Main Differences

1. SENSOR The G9 features an older 20.4MP sensor, whereas the G9 II gets the same new 25.2MP "dual output gain" sensor first seen in the GH6.

2. AUTOFOCUS The biggest headline is the addition of phase detection AF on the G9 II. It also gets more advanced subject detection, and can recognize the eyes of animals, as well as vehicles.

3. SPEED The G9 can reach speeds of 60fps (AF locked) or 20fps with C-AF. The G9 II pushes the boundaries, and can work at 60fps with continuous autofocus or 75fps with Single AF.

4. VIDEO The G9 can record 4K 30p, or 4K 60p (but limited to 10-min / clip). The G9 II can do 5.8K “open gate” up to 30p, and 5.7K up to 60p. In 4K, you can work up to 120p.

5. SENSOR SHIFT  The G9 II can compensate up to 8 stops (7.5 stops with Dual IS). The G9 has a rating of 6.5EV (Dual IS). The G9 II also works handheld with the high resolution mode.
