Sony A7R V vs A7 IV

The 5 Main Differences

Curious to discover the five most important differences between the Sony A7R V and A7 IV? Let's take a look!

1. SENSOR The A7R V has a stunning 61MP sensor, almost double the resolution of the A7 IV (33MP). The R model has no low-pass filter to maximise sharpness and details.

2. AUTOFOCUS The AI processing unit gives the A7R V more tracking capabilities for humans and animals (body, head, eyes). It can also detect insects, cars, trains and aeroplanes.

3. STABILISATION The A7R V has better 5-axis image stabilisation, with a gain of 8 stops of compensation (vs 5.5 stops for the A7 IV). It can handle shutter speeds as slow as 1 second, or even two seconds.

4. VIDEO The A7R V records 8K up to 25p, and 4K 60p (1.24x crop). The A7 IV does 4K 30p with the full width of the sensor, and 4K 60p in Super35 mode (APS-C).

5. PRICE  The A7R V is more expensive: $3900, £4000 or €4500. The a7 IV can be found for $2500, £2400 or €2700.
